I booked Emily and Joseph’s wedding early in my wedding photography career. When I took their engagement photos, I just knew this was going to be maybe one of the most beautiful weddings I’ll ever photograph. A sweet young couple, they had such special moments scheduled for their day at The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm in Madbury, NH. A first touch, Emily’s first look with Dad. It was going to be something special.

Let’s start with a short glimpse at their engagement session at the same property Joseph proposed.

Now onto wedding day! May weddings are a crapshoot. You’re lucky if you get the perfect Spring day. Emily and Joseph’s wedding was HOT! You would have thought it was mid-July. Luckily the getting-ready locations were air conditioned (not always the case). The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm is a beautiful, large property that has 2 separate houses for the bride and groom to get ready in, aside from their gorgeous restored barn. I was in one house with Emily and her girls while my second shooter, Lindsay, was with Joseph and the guys.

After Emily’s first look with Dad (that was beyond sweet… never seen a prouder Daddy), we escorted Emily over to a private area where Joseph was waiting for their first touch. Back-to-back, hand-in-hand, they exchanged notes that the other had written. They were still waiting to see each other at the ceremony, but this was a great way to help calm nerves beforehand, and to have a sweet photo-op!

Now that the nerves were settled (a little), it was time to prepare for the ceremony. A reminder - this was a HOT day! The ceremony was in the bright light. Luckily, I was able to take some breaks in the shade but that wasn’t the case for the guys in suits. Sorry, guys! The ceremony was beautiful and intimate, overlooking the property at Powder Major’s on the patio just outside the barn where the reception would be held.

The ceremony completed with a romantic first kiss and the happiest couple walking back up the aisle. We collected all the immediate family and bridal party and headed to take the formal photos.

One fun thing about Powder Major’s is they let you use their golf cart! Me, Lindsay, Emily and Joseph hopped in and drove around the property finding great stops to take some stunning photos.

Now, let’s talk about the details. Emily and Joseph put together a simple, rustic, down-home theme for their wedding. It was elegant yet casual (that sounds like Ina Garten speaking) and was exactly what they wanted.

Then, it was time to party. A beautiful first dance was followed by touching speeches and a delicious dinner! The sunset at Powder Major’s is not one to be missed, so Emily, Joseph and I ran out for a quick session under the golden sun.

The night was capped off by dancing and a special sparkler exit right outside the barn. A quintessential New Hampshire wedding - one for the books!
